Jack Haberl, M.D.

Dr. Jack Haberl is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Rehabilitation Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York, NY. Dr. Haberl is dual board-certified/eligible in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) and Sports Medicine. He specializes in providing comprehensive, patient-centered, non-operative sports and musculoskeletal care to patients of all activity levels. As a Manhattan-based specialist, Dr. Haberl is committed to serving athletes, weekend warriors, and active individuals throughout New York City by helping them restore function and maintain healthy lifestyles.

Dr. Haberl completed his undergraduate education at Wake Forest University with a degree in Health and Exercise Science, where he developed his passion for sports medicine while serving as a student athletic trainer for the men’s Division I soccer team. He earned his Medical Degree from Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, while simultaneously earning a Master of Business Administration in Healthcare Administration from Rutgers Business School. Dr. Haberl served as Clinic Co-Director for the Fairmont/Apostle’s House Homeless Shelter Student-Run Clinics in Newark, NJ, an endeavor for which he was honored with the Clement A. Price Human Dignity Award from Rutgers University for promoting equity, inclusion, and healthcare access in the local community. He completed his Internal Medicine internship at Morristown Medical Center and his residency in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at NewYork-Presbyterian (Columbia/Cornell), where he served as Administrative Chief Resident. 

Dr. Haberl then completed an ACGME-accredited fellowship in Sports Medicine at NewYork-Presbyterian (Columbia/Cornell/Queens). Dr. Haberl’s athletic coverage experience spans high school, collegiate, professional, and Olympic levels. He has served as a team physician and sideline medical provider for NCAA Division I Athletics at Columbia University and Fordham University. He has provided medical coverage for the U.S. Soccer Extended National Teams, USA Gymnastics Championships, New York Exiles (Women’s Elite Rugby), Long Island Nets (NBA G League), Sprott Tournament of Champions at Grand Central Terminal (PSA Squash Tour), TCS New York City Marathon, School of American Ballet, and Battery Park Dance Festival.

Clinically, Dr. Haberl believes in an evidence-based, multidisciplinary approach to managing acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions. He is highly skilled in diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasonography and advanced image-guided interventional procedures, including joint, bursa, and tendon injections, viscosupplementation, orthobiologics including platelet-rich plasma (PRP), prolotherapy, needle tenotomy/fenestration, peripheral nerve injections, and extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT). He prioritizes individualized rehabilitation strategies and patient education, ensuring every care plan is tailored to the unique functional goals of the individual.

Dr. Haberl’s primary research and academic interests include injury prevention, performance optimization, and quality improvement. He has published and lectured on a variety of topics related to sports medicine at the local, regional, and national levels including orthobiologics, tendinopathy management, and ultrasound-guided procedures. He is passionate about teaching and mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows in rehabilitation and sports medicine.

Whether it’s getting back to sports or more everyday tasks like playing with the kids or walking the dog, Dr. Haberl is committed to helping his patients get back in the game.
