Dr. Alfred Gellhorn and Dr. Christopher Visco presented at the United Nations session, "Meeting the Demands of the 21st Century Through Innovative Technology" on June 15th to discuss the efforts fo the newly established Global Health Elective for residents to brign a PRP (platelet-rich plasma) protocal with ultrasound applications to Tanzania.

The Global Health Elective was established in 2016 by the Rehabilitation residency program of NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia/Cornell. Under the leadership of Dr. Alfred Gellhorn, each resident spends a 6-week rotation at several hospitals in Tanzania.

One of the first initiatives of the Global Health Elective includes creating a stroke registry and program for ultrasound guided platelet-rich plasma injections. A PRP protocal would work well in an area like Tanzani due to its ease of replication and implementation as well as cost-effective nature.
