Diane Thompson, M.D.

Diane A. Thompson, MD, MS, is an Assistant Professor of clinical rehabilitation medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine, and Chief of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Brooklyn Methodist Hospital Center.

Dr. Thompson earned her medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. She completed an internship in Internal Medicine at Franklin Square Hospital (a community hospital of the University of Maryland Medical System) and residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia and Cornell.

Prior to a career in medicine, Dr. Thompson was a registered nurse followed by an adult nurse practitioner, where she earned the Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society’s award for clinical excellence.

After completion of her medical training, Dr. Thompson accepted a position as Assistant Professor of clinical rehabilitation medicine at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons.  She was also the medical director of the inpatient rehabilitation unit at New York Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center, and provided medical oversight for the outpatient cardiopulmonary rehabilitation program.

Dr. Thompson is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Brain Injury Medicine, and Lifestyle Medicine.

Her areas of interest include neurological rehabilitation and Lifestyle Medicine.  Dr. Thompson is also very involved in community education and has lectured extensively, both nationally and internationally, on the use of Lifestyle Medicine in stroke prevention, chronic disease management, and as a tool to help address health disparities. 

Dr. Thompson is the author of the Amazon best-seller, Lifestyle Medicine Rx: 101 Ways to Transform Your Health and Life.  She is also a Complete Health Improvement Facilitator, a certified health coach, and a certified yoga teacher.  She has been a radio host of a syndicated radio health show and podcast, and has been the health columnist for a community newspaper. She has been awarded New York Super Doctor 2018, 2019, 2020.
